Allergy Relief
Come hay fever season, many people seek allergy relief as the pollens and other triggers become more abundant. Allergic reactions can range from the mild such as sneezing or a rash, to the more severe that can bring on vomiting, diarrhea, and even loss of consciousness. Allergies can also be triggered by a number of factors such as food (eggs, peanuts, shellfish etc) dust mites, pollen, cats, dogs, alcohol, some medications Relief from allergies can be accomplished by avoidance of the triggering cause – if possible – and in the case of food allergies, this is the safest procedure. Removal of dust collecting rugs, curtains and so on can bring some relief. Sometimes you can build up an immunity to the allergy from pets, but if severe, avoidance is the only option really. One of the common allergy relief medications is anti-histamine. Histamine is an antibody that your immune system releases in excess whenever a foreign element enters your body (the food or element that you are allergic to). Medications for allergy relief are best taken before the onset of an attack – more as a prophylactic measure than as a relief once an attack is activated. There is a wide range of allergy relieving medications available over the counter at your local drugstore. However, it is always prudent to consult your doctor if an allergy is severe and also before starting a non-prescription medication that is new to you. Also, your pharmacist can also supply invaluable information. What else you can do Opt for non drowsy medications especially if you have to drive a car or operate machinery. Review you diet – ensure any foods that you are allergic to are not present in sub form (indirect) – e.g. in cooking materials like peanut oil (if the allergy is peanuts) Add spices and herbs to your daily diet – garlic, onions, cinnamon, tumeric and ginger are all used as allergy remedies in many countries. Consider homeopathic allergy relief Drink plenty of water and maintain a balanced diet with exercise.
